Community Update: Habitat for Humanity Queensway Project

Housing affordability is now at a breaking point in Halton.

To create inclusive  communities and advocate for a better mix of family and assisted units we need to address, learn, coordinate and create a Burlington for everyone.

The deficit between income and the cost to responsibly own a home is polarizing. We need to learn what works through strategic partnerships, like Habitat for Humanity and Halton Housing - then scale out. We know that simply increasing housing supply through intensification and height will not deliver on vibrancy and inclusion.

I was humbled to visit Habitat for Humanity’s Queensway Project in Ward 2 to learn about the progress and final stages of welcoming new community members.

This venture will also see a new deferred homeownership model that offers flexibility to our partner families, while ensuring that the 18 homes remain with Habitat in perpetuity, thereby allowing more families to be served.

Habitat Halton-Mississauga is consistently raising the bar and pushing the boundaries of what is considered possible in the non-profit home building community.

Crew-Goetz Landing, located in Burlington, is an innovative project that has the distinction of being a Habitat groundbreaker, marking several first for their affiliates. As Habitat’s largest build to date, it will also be the most expensive.
